Noble Timor Launches 2nd International Underwater Dive Photo Contest at ADEX

Official Press Release for the 2018 Dive Photo Contest

Former President and Nobel Laureate, José Ramos-Horta, launched Timor-Leste’s second International Dive Photo Contest in Singapore at ADEX, Asia’s longest running and biggest Dive Expo. The 2018 Dive Photo Contest will be held in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, between the 22nd and the 26th of October, in 2018.

Held over five days, the 2018 Dive Photo Contest aims to attract 50 world class international photographers to participate in a competitive shootout across 7 distinct categories. Event patron, José Ramos Horta

presented a keynote speech at ADEX to a packed out audience on the subject of ‘Climate change and its effects on island nations.’.

Following his keynote address Mr. Ramos-Horta went onto to launch the 2018 event: “It is my honour to be here at ADEX with so many marine, environment and sport enthusiasts from around the world. Timor-Leste has some of the best diving in the region and in fact the world. Our contest will further confirm the incredible underwater biodiversity of Timor-Leste, our pristine marine environment and of course the importance of protecting our natural resources for our future generations. Noble Timor aims to attract the best photographers to come and be astounded by our diving, our people’s hospitality and the

incredible unspoiled beauty of Timor-Leste.”

The 2018 Dive Photo Contest will have 7 distinct categories with cash awards for the best three entries in each category. With enthusiastic support from all three of the major dive shops based in Timor-Leste the event will provide spectacular access to Timor-Leste’s shore and boat diving across 12 dive sites all within 1.5 hrs travel of the capital Dili.

Talking about the partnership with John Thet’s media group underwater 360 Mr. Ramos-Horta went on to say; “It is thanks to longterm supporters of Timor-Leste, like John Thet, his team and the dive operators on the ground that Timor-Leste will look to develop our nascent diving industry, which is only 15 years
old. Working together we aim to protect, preserve and promote our marine environment. The photos and films that will be generated from this Dive Photo Contest will be used to market Timor-Leste internationally which in turn will provide economic growth, access to employment for our young people and rural communities and showcase Timor-Leste as a world class destination for marine enthusiasts. So i invite photographers from around the world to register for next years event and I look forward to welcoming you all to our beautiful island nation.”.

Registration for the Dive Photo Contest will open on the 15th of April 2017 through the events official website – further updates can be found on the events official social media page on Facebook.
